Me, me, and me..., Mushy MomentsDecember 28, 2007 9:40 am

I had a sad Christmas because of an instance that transpired on my family last Christmas eve. But I’m not gonna let that happen again in celebrating my New Year. I don’t wanna start my year with sadness.  If I let some stuff spoiled my Christmas eve then I won’t let that happen again. Now, I’m listing all the things I need to prepare, the foods and everything that I’ll be needing this coming new year celebration.

May everyone as well celebrate New Year with happiness and peace. Good tidings everyone!

If there would be a song that would best describe how I feel right now- that is Bad Day by Daniel Powter. Well, life would be unfair to anybody else if I only encounter victory. Maybe this is the reason why I’m bombarded with a lot of trials that I knew I have to overcome as soon as possible. Of course, I wouldn’t let anyone spoil my Christmas but it seems everybody is pushing me to spoil it. I knew it’s a matter of choice, my mindset to be happy but I just don’t know at this moment if I can do it.

This last semester of my College years is really full of trials. God! I got this one stupid teacher who get his lessons only at wikipedia.net. I don’t belittle what information we can get from wikipedia.net because I too, am getting some information from it. My point here is, this stupid teacher sets too high standards which does not even conform to his capacities. He’s a wide dreamer, he talks a lot, but he never have that word of honor. All what he said are just impossible dreams that I don’t know where he got all of these. I just wanted fair judgment. Can’t wait to get out from this kind of environment to where I am right now. INCOMPETENCE RULES AND HE IS THE KING!

Preludes our Christmas break is a nerve breaking exam week. You can now really feel the cold breeze touching the warm hearts of the people. Some are already busy with their Christmas wish list, menu for their noche buena and a whole lot more. But here’s me, enjoying this 4 consecutive no class days due to a nationwide transport strike.

Wheew, this strike brought pre-Xmas vacation for me. But it doesn’t mean I’m on to hang outs tonight but instead I’m facing my PC doing all our projects, documents and piles of requirements to accomplish for this coming week. Of course, it’s always part of my schedule to make posts for my seven(7) blogs. Yes, you read it right guys…I got seven blogs to maintain and that is how addicted I am to blogging. Anyway, it brought a lot of benefits for me so it was never a waste of my time.

December 6, 2007 marked a very significant day of my life as an IT student. It was indeed a very nerve breaking experience being one of the participants of the 5th Mindanao-Wide IT Quiz Bowl which is participated by 24 Universities and Colleges all over Mindanao. I feel so blessed and happy to share that a dream and prayer of mine is fulfilled. We grab the CHAMPION title of this year’s quiz bowl competition.

The quiz bowl was tough and it really tested our endurance to such nerve breaking questions in each round. I was quite surprised because the type of quiz given is not the typical multiple choice type but rather it was mainly filling in the blank with the correct answer. I could therefore proudly say that we won not by chances of guessing the letter of the correct choice but we won because we’ve answered the questions correctly. It was really tough and very challenging quiz show I’ve ever joined.

Quiz Show Result:

CHAMPION: UNIVERSITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION (yours truly: Mary Grace Ignacio with Catherine Remolleno)

1st Runner Up: U.P. Mindanao

2nd Runner Up: Holy Child School of Davao

At least, I’ll be leaving the school with the prestige being the Champion. I’ve longed this for so long and everytime I join a competition. At all times, I never get contented of giving what is required but I always seek for ways to have a better result than what is expected. Just as like given a task, I always give my best shot and seek for more productivity. Same goes with joining a competition.

Along with us to share this victory is our other accomplished wins for that day. We won 1st runner-up for our vocal solo, 2nd runner up for the MTV Spoof and Modern Dance. Congrats UICians! Indeed, it was a very great experience. Let me grab this opportunity as well to thank all the people who believed in us and supported us all the way. To Sir Ex, for choosing me as the participant, to our Coach-Sir Arnold, the UIC-ITE Family and my inspirations. Thank you so much!

Updates:

The recently concluded programming competition paved way to UIC-ITE Programming team to their success for grabbing the 1st runner up title. Congrats guys!

Just three more days and another nerve breaking day is waiting for me. MSITE is holding a Mindanao Wide IT Olympiad and Congress this coming December 6,7 and 8. I’m a bit nervous on the event I’m joining but I’m certain for one thing, I’ll give my best shot. UICians, I need your prayers, I really need it. Well, I just drop by to blog this about and yes I have to keep going. I know very soon I’ll turn to a corner and see a beautiful road ahead of me. *the optimist side of me says so*…

I was considering to turn back on an emotional journey today, but a friend of mine told me to just try to hang in to this! I have to hold on to this continued efforts and my commitment to improve myself. And this will be the powerful sign I’ll be showing to the universe. It is something that can’t be denied. I need so much of moral support, your prayers and God’s guidance to this endeavor. A new challenge which is a must to face and I fervently pray to succeed.

Maging Sino Ka Man is back and of course, Anne is back again. I really just find her very pretty and she also prettily says that line to Angelika- "Wow, very well said". Indeed, it is.

Ways of the Gestapo

MANILA, Philippines — As Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV prepared to turn himself in to arresting officers, after realizing that his second attempt to topple President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had failed, he whined that what had transpired only showed to what great lengths the President would go to hang on to power. “You have been witnesses and victims of the kind of ruthlessness that this government has been giving (sic) to the people,” said the former Navy lieutenant who also led the failed Oakwood mutiny in July 2003. He was, of course, referring to the overpowering force the administration unleashed against his group of about 30 soldiers and a few dozen civilian supporters.

Not very many people would agree that the government used excessive force to quash the rebellion. But very few would disagree that the way the police handled — or more accurately, manhandled — the members of the media who were covering the event bordered on ruthlessness.

As soon as Trillanes et al. signaled surrender, the police moved in to arrest everyone in sight, regardless of whether they were Magdalo soldiers or sympathizers or media people going about their business of reporting what was obviously a significant event. Then they tied up everyone with plastic tie wraps (except for a few feisty female reporters who refused to be subjected to such indignity) and herded them into buses that would later bring them to Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City. Some media men who stuck their hands out of the window to show to television cameras were hit with sticks. A few said the police pointed their guns at them.

What was their crime? None, police and civilian officials declared. Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno explained that there were reports that some Magdalo members or sympathizers had disguised themselves as members of the media and the police wanted to make sure they didn’t get away. So, he said, everyone was being taken to Bicutan for “processing” so that the authorities could determine if those who claimed they were from the media were indeed what they claimed to be.

Of course, the police cannot be expected to know each and every reporter, photographer or cameraman working for scores of media organizations based in Metro Manila. But unless someone does not watch the news on TV at all, he would surely know that Ces Drilon and Pinky Webb work for ABS-CBN Broadcasting and Sandra Aguinaldo for GMA Network. Their faces are their IDs, so why did the police have to confirm their identities in Bicutan? And why was it not good enough for the police that top station officials would vouch for the identities of the people assigned to cover the event?

If all that the police wanted was to check the media people’s identity, they could have done that right at the hotel by asking for everyone’s ID and calling the newsrooms to verify. But no, the police had to humiliate the media people and force them to go through the ordeal of being handcuffed and transported to Bicutan. Only to find out that their information about infiltration was wrong, since they found not a single impostor among the media people they had brought in for questioning.

But Puno himself hinted that there was a dark reason for the arrests other than identity checks, when he accused the media people of “wittingly or unwittingly, all of them, obstructing justice.” In other words, the administration suspected the journalists who covered the event of being part of the plot to topple Ms Arroyo. In fact, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Avelino Razon is now threatening to charge the journalists present at the Manila Peninsula with obstruction of justice if they would file any charges against the policemen who hauled them off to Bicutan.

The media should call Razon’s bluff. Let’s see if he can find a friendly judge who will declare it a crime to cover breaking news. If the media will blink in the face of such intimidation, the Gestapos in the PNP and in Malacañang will continue to march in triumph, crushing under their heels everyone’s political rights and civil liberties.

Reaction:

I’m no longer surprise how Filipinos are becoming wild just because of power. With regards to the failing attempt of  Sen. Trillanes, well he deserves it. He called up for revolution without even giving the people a clear grasp of why do such thing. These people, who happened to have power, money, authority and everything that poor Filipinos doesn’t have, really are just wasting all their resources. Pres.GMA is not going and will never step down from her position. And who did they think deserves to become the president of this very poor country whose leaders aim only for one goal and that is to quench their thirst for political power and all their selfish agenda? This chaos which recently transpired in Makati is just a very clear indication how worst this country is becoming to be. Unfortunately, the people residing in this country are making it worse than ever.
